Alexander Street Enables Rich Exploration of Modern Judaism

Twentieth Century Religious Thought Library expands to include 100,000 pages
of rare documents from the most influential thinkers

The addition of Volume III: Judaism expands Alexander Street’s renowned Twentieth Century Religious Thought Library to encompass, at completion, 100,000 pages documenting the evolution of Judaism from the 1890s to the 2010s.  Many of the documents have never been published before.

Volume III: Judaism introduces a curated selection of unpublished primary sources and texts from the most influential writers and thinkers in modern Judaism to inspire students and researchers with fresh scholarly perspectives. While this new volume is tailored to the needs of scholars of Judaism, it is also an invaluable addition to the complete Twentieth Century Religious Thought Library for comprehensive inter-religion study.

"We are delighted to introduce the latest volume on Judaism, making our initial goal to create a unique tool for interfaith dialogue a reality. Now, different voices from Christianity, Islam and Judaism can be heard, and the range of schools of thought and traditions examined in a more comprehensive way," said Nathalie Duval, Publisher at Alexander Street.

The collections in the Twentieth Century Religious Thought Library – Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and the Digital Karl Barth Library – work together for the broadest and deepest insights across religious subjects. Curated in collaboration with an expert advisory board, this expansive resource provides students and scholars with rare and previously undigitized content, including materials from feminist theologians and other marginalized and lesser-known voices.

Within the database’s coverage of 200 leading religious thinkers and writers, 75% of the collection consists of foundational writings, contextual monographs and archival content in English, so they are accessible across the curriculum and provide support for an array of disciplines, including history, sociology, politics and literature.

In 2018, a volume on Eastern religions is expected to be added to the collection, and upon completion, the Twentieth Century Religious Thought Library will encompass more than 400,000 pages, 900 monographs and 10,000 archival items.
